IT Sourcing

Focus on Core Competencies

Flexible Outsourcing Models

The question as to whether rendering certain services internally or purchasing them from external suppliers is not new. It arises particularly in economically challenging times: many companies find themselves forced to focus on their core competencies and reduce costs in order to be able to operate profitably. In this phase, companies increasingly look at outsourcing options with cost reduction in mind. In many cases, these considerations include the concepts of IT outsourcing, i.e. the outsourcing of information technology services and related IT management tasks on the basis of Service Level Agreements (SLA).

Outsourcing services can be purchased for the infrastructure, application or process level. plan42 helps you find and implement the option that best fits your company's requirements:

Application Service Providing (ASP)

Based on ASP, companies can outsource entire administrative departments or process steps. The application service provider is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the service. The outsourcing company does not purchase the required software, but rents it via the data network to use it as needed.

Business Process Outsourcing (BPO)

This is a special form of outsourcing and describes the outsourcing of entire business processes. The difference from other forms of outsourcing is that not a part of the structure organisation (i.e. an organisational unit/department), but a part of the process organisation is to be outsourced.

Business Transformation Outsourcing (BTO)

This service model combines counseling and operation of IT and business processes, i.e. it integrates outsourcing and business consulting.

Comprehensive Outsourcing/Complete Outsourcing

This outsourcing model is used to outsource entire company departments, including major parts of the personnel, to a third-party company.

Managed Services

For a defined period of time, services are rendered by a specialised supplier. The client may then make use of, but also cancel, the service at any time.

Outtasking

External service providers take over specific tasks. The difference from BPO is that the outsourcing company keeps process control.

Transitional Outsourcing

This model helps companies cope with technology changes: The company transfers the relevant tasks to a third-party provider who is skilled in both the existing and the new technology.

Avoiding Mistakes

In practice, the expected cost advantages do not always occur in the medium and long term. The most common reasons include insufficient analysis of the internally provided IT services in terms of scope and cost as well as lack of acceptance within the outsourcing company.

We help you identify the relevant services in your organisation and define the exact service scope you require. Based on these results, we support you in selecting the right sourcing model and designing viable SLAs.
